BRING YOUR ANNOTATED STORY - ON PAPER - TO OUR NEXT CLASS
(pages 2-6 in the course pack or on printed PDF)

1) PREPARING FOR 1ST ASSIGNMENT TASKS: EXAMINE CLOSELY THE GRADING RUBRIC FOR THE FIRST CREATIVE ASSIGNMENT.

For now, focus on the top section regarding completion marks. These marks are awarded for completing key tasks during the production process. You receive a full mark if you complete the task.

All or Nothing: No marks are given for incomplete or late process tasks; read and follow the instructions for each task closely.

The purpose of these completion marks is to emphasize the importance of the process and continuous engagement over producing a 'perfect' final product.

2) STUDYING: READ CLOSELY YOUR CLASS NOTES TO UNDERSTAND THE BASIC ELEMENT OF A TRADITIONAL PLOT SEQUENCE.

3) READING: READ CLOSELY AND THOROUGHLY ANNOTATE THE FAIRY-TALE "BROTHER AND SISTER" (pages 2-6 in the course pack or on printed PDF).

AS YOU READ, ANNOTATE - ON PAPER - THE TEXT FULLY: UNDERLINE THE TEN ELEMENTS OF THE PLOT WHEN YOU FIND THEM IN THE STORY and IDENTIFY EACH ELEMENT IN THE MARGIN OF THE PRINTED TEXT.

Specifically, identify 10 basic elements of the plot sequence: the (1) triggering event, the first sequence of (3) similar crises, the (1) temporary or fake resolution, the second sequence of (3) similar crises, the (1) climax, that is, the tragic, hopeless, or scary event or scene immediately preceding the final resolution, and the (1) final resolution.

IF YOU CANNOT IDENTIFY ONE OF THE ELEMENTS, ASK YOUR TEACHER SUPPORT BY USING THE MOODLE FORUM "QUESTIONS FOR YOUR TEACHER." Ask early, as your teacher may not check Moodle in the evening or on weekends.

This is your first analytical assignment. Do not worry if you struggle a bit. This is normal. Read the story and class notes closely, underline significant passages, and take plenty of notes in the margins. Show your full engagement with the text and a clear attempt to work with our class notes. Do not worry about getting all the perfect answers.

To help you, here is what the plot sequence of the story looks like:

4) ALL or NOTHING: READ CLOSELY THE POST ON HOW FORUM CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE GRADED.

5) MOODLE FORUM: POST ONE ORIGINAL COMMENT OR ONE REPLY TO A PEER IN THE MOODLE FORM ON "BROTHER AND SISTER." Your response (excusing the quote from the story) must include at least 150 words and include at least four fully developed sentences.

The instructions regarding this forum are provided in your teacher's post at the beginning of the forum. For instance, begin your post by "quoting" a specific passage in the story that resonates with you and that you are commenting on.

Choose the forum that corresponds to the first letter(s) of your last name.

Do not worry about writing errors or slightly misreading the text. Focus on engaging with the text and your peers, and following instructions closely.

No AI assistance is permitted for this assignment. The use of AI will be permitted for other tasks -- always with the teacher's explicit approval.

Take care.
